Quel tribut à la cuisine française!

En classe, nous travaillons avec des recettes typiques de la France. Je chercher des informations sur deux recettes (l'origine historique, la région d´où elles sont et les ingrédients). 
J'ai choisi le gratin dauphinois et le coq au vin.

L'histoire du gratin dauphinois:

  Le gratin dauphinois est originaire du Dauphiné, région du Sud Est de la France. Son apparition remonte en 1565 en Italie puis en 1589 en Suisse. Ce plat est lié à la diffusion de la pomme de terre en Europe. On suppose que son apparition dans le Dauphiné date du 16ème siècle ou 17ème siècle.

 
Le gratin dauphinois est lié également à la Révolution française puisque le 12 juillet 1788 le duc de Clermont-Tonnerre, lieutenant et commandant en chef offre un repas aux officiers municipaux de Gap, c’est à ce moment-là que le nom de gratin dauphinois apparaît officiellement. Puis entre le 19ème siècle et 20ème siècle, le gratin dauphinois s’impose dans les auberges du Vercor. 

Ingrédients du gratin dauphinois pour 4 personnes:

• 800 g pommes de terre
• 1 gousse d’ail
• 1/2 litre lait entier
• 1/4 litre crème liquide entière
• 1 noix de muscade
• sel, poivre
• 1 noix de beurre

L'histoire du coq au vin:

  

 Le coq au vin est une recette historique. Dans le passé il était servi pour fêter la fin des moissons, cependant son origine reste incertaine. Selon la légende, il faudrait remonter à l’époque de la conquête de la Gaule. Un peuple arverne assiégé par les Romains aurait envoyé un coq, symbole de bravoure et de détermination, au camp ennemi pour le narguer. Pour répondre à cette provocation, Jules César invita le chef gaulois à dîner. À l’époque, le vin était un produit de luxe, synonyme de richesse et donc de pouvoir. Le chef cuisinier reçu l’ordre de préparer le coq gaulois de manière à impressionner le chef arverne. Tous deux se régalent de ce qui vous l’aurez deviné… n’était autre que du coq au vin!

Ingrédients du coq au vin pour 6 personnes:

• 1 coq de 2,5 kg ou poulet fermier
• 24 petits oignons blancs
• 2 gousses d'ail
• 200 g de lardons
• 1 cuillère à soupe d'huile
• 80 g de beurre
• 1 verre à liqueur de Cognac
• 1 l de bon vin rouge
• 1 bouquet garni
• 200 g de champignons de Paris
• 1 cuillère à soupe de farine
• 1/2 dl de sang (facultatif)
• sel et poivre

Why is technology important for the environment?

For starters, we watched the movie "Avatar" and did a deep analysis of it. While doing so, we came to the conclusion that this film has a great focus on the environment, mainly of Pandora, the planet where the movie is setted in, and how humans can damage it.
As a final task, we had to explore to the UN Environmental Topics and choose one, and with this information deliver a speech. The topic I chose to explain was how Technology affects the environment

Technology. First of all, let’s start with a definition. Technology means the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry. So, you might be wondering why I’m talking about technology when others have been talking about environmental topics, well, it may not be obvious, but technology has an impact on the environment.

We all know that technology has brought many environmental and social problems, but it’s a key element for promoting the conservation of our planet. For example, technologies used for treating waste help solve environmental problems whereas refrigeration and air-conditioning systems that use ozone-depleting refrigerants, have huge environmental impacts associated with their use.

There is a term that I want you to know about, Environmentally Sound Technologies. They are the technologies that from a life cycle perspective, protect the environment, are less polluting, use resources in a sustainable manner, recycle more of their wastes and products, and handle all residual wastes in a more environmentally acceptable way than the technologies for which they are substitutes understand, utilize and replicate the technology, including the capacity to choose it and adapt it to local conditions and to integrate it with indigenous technologies.

Technology has come so far; did you know that there is an app that can calculate the amount of rainwater that’s been collected in a roof? I know, it’s crazy, but rainwater harvesting is really important nowadays, especially in countries like Africa, not only because it ensures greater water security, but because it can also improve livelihoods of women and children by reducing time spent on fetching water: women still spend 16 million hours a day collecting water in 25 sub-Saharan countries.

For example, a person in Turkana county in Kenya can enter her location (Kenya, Lodwar), the length and width of the roof of the house (in meters), the number of family members, and the quantity of water used per day. The app returns the estimated amount of rainwater that can be harvested, and the quantity of water for a family.

The lack of water in Africa is a real challenge, studies calculate that by 2025 more than 2.8 billion people in 48 countries will face water stress or water scarcity conditions.
